From speed dating and single parties, to single holidays, to dating services and cooking courses singles are seen as a separate community in our society. Researchers develop all kinds of studies to find out what type of people singles are, why they are single and if they are happy without a partner.

But a closer look reveals that is no such thing as the typical stereotype single. Some singles are single because their partner has left them. They didn t choose to be single and are sad to be alone. They usually think they won t get over their loss, they are mourning after their true love and think they will never find a partner that matches again in their whole life. The other type of involuntary singles is the ones that didn t find a match yet but are desperate to do so. They buy every kind of book with tips for singles that there is, they go to every dating event that takes place and they date a lot of people with the hope to find Ms. or Mr. Right among them. The opposite of involuntary singles are the ones that chose to live without a partner. They might have got hurt by someone they love at some point in their past and built an emotional shield around them in order to not make that happen again. Or they are convinced that they are happier on their own. Those singles actually are or pretend to be happy alone. They live the way they want to, are free to do whatever they want to do, appreciate the possibility to sleep with a lot of different partners and not commit to any kinds of limitation to their personal freedom. They love living alone, without anyone telling them to tidy up or get out of bed on a Sunday afternoon after another long party night. Then there are the ones that are single because they commit 100% to their career. They live for their job and don t leave any time or space in their lives for a partner. They don t even think about relationships because they are so engaged with their professional responsibilities. But even they have human needs and at some point they might feel lonely, most of all when it comes to family planning. At that point they might consider to work a bit less and care for some social activities and contacts in order to find someone to share their lives with. Last but not least, there is the romantic type of single that is waiting for the one true love. The life of these people is determined by dreams and hopes and imaginations about how great life will be from that one special day when the one steps into their lives.

There is to say, that no matter if single or not, we are all searching for something in life and everyone has to decide for themselves what it is, that makes them truly happy.

> back to girlsmeetgentlemen.com

© since 2006

all rights reserved
